If you have decided to start therapy sessions with me, I want to make sure that you have a clear understanding of what to expect.
Sometimes it can be stressful not knowing what is going on or, if it’s your first time going to therapy, it might not be very clear to you as to how the process works. I hope this will explain to you what it looks like.
The very first session is the intake session – a 90 minute session which doesn’t take as long as you think it will. It will go by quite quickly! I ask a bunch of different questions and it’s quite structured. I’ll ask questions about what your daily meals look like right through to talking about if you’re grieving the loss of a loved one. So there’s a wide range of topics that we’ll talk about.
Of course, there will be an opportunity to tell me what is happening in your life and why you’re looking for therapy right now too.
What Will Happen After Our 90-Minute Session?
After that 90-minute session, we’ll go into 60 minute sessions typically once a week. These 60-minute sessions are where we’ll talk about your therapy goals and what you’re headed for.
We’ll figure out what would be different for you if we waved a magic wand, then you and I will work towards understanding how to get you from A to B.
We’ll work on understanding your goals and think about the things that could help you get closer to your goals on a weekly basis. After each session, we’ll chat about therapy notes too. I will send you a set of notes and we’ll talk about what helpful practices you can do to help you reach your goals sooner.
Note-Taking:
I encourage you to actively participate in the note-taking process.
This is your therapy and it’s best when you take an active role in the process. As much as I try to guide you and help you get back on track with the life that you want to live, it’s best for you when you choose to be actively involved in it too.
If you have any questions at all, please let me know. Email me or send me a message on Signal and I’ll do my best to answer them.
