If I write down my thoughts and worries into a journal, would it help me open up to people and ease my anxiety?

Having a worry journal can help you decompress at the end of the day. A lot of the time we do all sorts of wonderful things on social media and in life to distract ourselves. We’re doing everything under the sun other than actually having a healthy outlet for what we need to get rid of at the end of the day.

Sure, scrolling and doing whatever else you do on social media does actually help you to decompress but it’s also a distraction technique. It’s helpful, but not helpful if it’s the only technique you go to and the only tool that you have to decompress at the end of the day.

Another one you can add in together with scrolling at the end of the day (you don’t need to stop all forms of distraction immediately), is to have a worry journal.

Using Your Worry Journal

A worry journal is just writing out your thoughts at the end of the day. Maybe it’s what you’re worried about that day or what’s to come, whatever it is, it’s a way to offload. It’s at least a place where you can actually have an outlet for your thoughts and feelings. All of that is still in there after you’ve been scrolling or mindlessly doing something else to distract you, whereas writing these thoughts down actually gets rid of them.

This way, there is space for you to offload and then the decompression actually happens a little bit more effectively so you can go to sleep with a lighter load knowing that you’ve sat with the feelings and emotions of worry and fear, processed them and moved on from them.
